Lehidy Frias returns to the Youth Restoration Project
Great News! Lehidy Frias is returning to train and co-facilitate for the Youth Restoration Project. They originally trained as a Restorative Justice Conference facilitator during the NIJ grant, and were based in Central Falls and Providence, RI.
Currently, Lehidy is the Restorative Practices Specialist at RYSE, an initiative that partners with Contra Costa County’s District Attorney’s conferencing youth who have committed arrestable offenses and minor felonies.
Lehidy empowers Richmond youth to name their needs and to take steps toward being accountable for the harms they have caused.
Lehidy believes that restorative justice creates a world where young people solve issues without the need for violence nor the criminal legal system.Lehidy also served as the former Dean of Culture for a Denver charter school where they were implementing restorative justice in system-wide procedures, a peer mediation program, and creating a schoolwide network focused on implementing and facilitating diversity, equity and inclusion. They led coordinated professional development with staff regarding race, racism, micro/macro aggression and the school-to-prison pipeline. Lehidy holds a B.A. in Anthropology and Public Health from Brown University, is a certified mediator, and holds a Masters degree in Restorative Justice from Vermont Law School.
